COC Nederland defends the interests of lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals, trans- and intersex persons (LGBTIs). They are committed to equal rights, emancipation and social acceptance of LGBTI people in the Netherlands and abroad. They strive for a diverse and inclusive world where people can develop to their full potential, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression and gender characteristics. Founded in 1946, the COC is the oldest existing LGBTI organization in the world. As one of the few LGBTI organizations, they have special advisory status at the United Nations.
